Some statistics on 2013 SPM results:
- A total of 470,395 candidates had registered for the 2013 SPM examination of which only 85.52 percent (378,490) were qualified to obtain certificates compared to 91.24 percent (402,859) in 2012.
- 442,588 candidates sat for examination
- overall SPM achievement in 2013 improved from the year before, with the National Average Grade (GPN) at 4.93 compared with 5.08 in 2012
- candidates from rural schools scored GPN points of 5.28 whereas candidates from urban schools scored 4.68 (4.83 in 2013). The performance gap has narrowed to 0.60, compared with 0.61 in 2012
- A total of 405 candidates (0.21%) out of 442,588 scored straight A+ in all papers
- Of the top scorers, 366 were from national schools while 39 were from other schools or private candidates
- A total of 13,970 candidates obtained Grade A in all subjects for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination last year, an increase of 0.05 percent or 250 candidates compared to 2012. the number of candidates from Education Ministry schools scoring Grade A in all subjects also increased from 11,648 in 2012 to 11,892 last year while that of non-government schools rose from 2,072 to 2,078
- From the total 13,970, 100 candidates obtained 12As; 2,164 candidates obtained 11As; 5,557 candidates obtained 10As; 6,087 candidates obtained 9A and the remaining 62 candidates obtained 8As, 7As and 6As
- achievements in six out of seven core subjects improved from the year before which is Bahasa Melayu, English, Islamic Studies, Moral, History and Science
- for Bahasa Melayu, the percentage who passed was 91.4% in 2013 compared with 91.1% in 2012
- percentage of candidates who passed History in 2013 increased by 6.3%, up from 80.3% in 2012 to 86.6%
- Only Mathematics saw a drop in the Subject Average Grade (GPMP) of 4.99 compared to 4.91 in 2012
- 1,229 (16.08%) of 7,645 MRSM students got straight As
